Human Resource Director

The Town of Salem, NH (population 32,000) seeks a full-time Human Resource Director to develop HR strategies, provide guidance to senior management, and manage the activities of the department with administrative, technical, and professional work in the administration of Town policies, practices, and procedures relating to all phases of personnel activity within the Town.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • The ability to strategically create, enhance and maintain an environment to foster a committed, motivated, and productive workforce.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field with 3 to 5 years of experience in a responsible role.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, compassion, and ethics in a confidential management position.
  • Experience in labor relations and negotiations with municipal unions.
  • Experience in municipal human resources is preferred.
  • Knowledge of NH and Federal labor laws.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to listen, empathize, and build relationships to create a sense of trust and engagement.

This is a full-time exempt position (standard work week 37.5 hours). Pay range $90,000 to $125,000/annually dependent upon qualifications and experience with competitive benefits including participation in the NH Retirement System. Pre-employment testing will include educational and criminal background, physical, and drug screen.
