After a 30-year career dedicated to the fire service, Chief Larry Best has announced his well-deserved retirement. In response to Chief Best's retirement, the Town of Salem has engaged Municipal Resources Inc. (MRI) to facilitate a seamless transition by providing expert assistance in the selection of an interim replacement.
The Town of Salem is pleased to introduce Perry Plummer as the esteemed individual stepping into the role of Interim Fire Chief. With a remarkable 35-year history of service to both the City of Dover and the state of New Hampshire, Perry Plummer brings a wealth of experience and leadership to his new responsibilities.
Plummer's journey in the fire service began in 1986 when he joined Dover Fire and Rescue. Over the years, he distinguished himself through dedication and competence, ultimately ascending to the position of Chief in 2002. Following his tenure as Dover's Fire Chief, Plummer embraced a broader mandate by contributing his skills as the Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for the state of New Hampshire. His impact continued to reverberate as he assumed the role of Assistant Commissioner for the New Hampshire Department of Safety, culminating in his retirement in 2019.
Perry Plummer then answered the call once again when he was asked to lead New Hampshire's COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Plummer's ability to step up during a critical time underscores his commitment to public safety and his dedication to his community.
According to the contract with Municipal Resources Inc., Perry Plummer will dedicate 32 hours per week over the next six months to serve as the Interim Fire Chief for the Town of Salem. During this tenure, he will seamlessly shoulder all responsibilities inherent to the position, ensuring the continuity of vital services. Plummer's immediate priorities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the fire department, conducting an internal talent review to identify potential successors, and evaluating current operational procedures for opportunities to enhance efficiency.
