New Salem Voting Districts Begin Starting for March 2026 Town Meeting Election
At the 2025 Town Meeting, the voters approved Article 15 for redistributing the Town's election districts. This redistribution plan included reducing the number of polling places from five to four by closing the Soule School polling district, relocating the Senior Center polling district to the Woodbury School, and renumbering the districts to ensure they are consecutive.
Town Moderator Bernie W. Campbell and Salem Community Television (SCTV) helped produce this Public Service Announcement (PSA) regarding the new voting districts.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Redistricting?
- You may have heard a lot about 'redistricting' in the news this year. Unlike congressional redistricting, Salem's redistricting is a lot simpler. We don't elect any of our town officials or state representatives by district. In our case, redistricting simply means redistributing voters to different polling locations in order to balance the number of voters that attend each location. This is done primarily to prevent overcrowding at any one location. With Salem growing and changing, it was time to look at where the most growth is happening and whether those existing polling locations can handle the increased numbers. Some of our locations are being severely stretched by growth, and the New Hampshire Secretary of State's office has suggested that changes are needed.
- What are the major changes?
- We will be moving from five polling locations to four. The Soule School is over capacity, and the parking situation there has never been good to be begin with. That location will be closed. In addition, we will be relocating one of our polling locations from the Senior Center to the newly renovated Woodbury School. The Woodbury School is a much larger facility, which will accommodate not only all of the existing Senior Center voters, but a large percentage of those voters who previously attended the Soule School.
- When are mailers and notifications being sent out?
- We will be pushing an informational campaign prior to the March election, with spots on SCTV, in person messaging, messaging from the schools, and direct mailers regarding which polling location you will be attending. The mailers will go out at the end of February, close to the March election, so that the information will be fresh in everyone's mind.
- When does this change take effect?
- Beginning for the March 2026 election.
