Water System Master Plan

In 2020 Salem's Water Engineering Consultant, CDM Smith, presented the Water System Master Plan Update at the August 17th Board of Selectmen meeting. The update was completed at the end of 2019 and was a supplement to both the 2013 plan update and the original, comprehensive Water System Master Plan completed in 2008. The latest plan update incorporates capital improvement projects that have been completed since the original 2008 plan, as well as examines immediate, mid-term, and long-term needs of the current assets. The plan includes the following sections:

  • Existing System
  • Demand, Population and Water Consumption
  • Water Quality and Treatment
  • Analysis of Distribution System
  • Operation and Maintenance
  • Water Supply
  • Organization
  • Capital Improvement

Salem has undertaken major water system improvement projects since 2008, notwithstanding becoming a member community of the Southern NH Regional Water Interconnection Project. Salem's Water Utility continues to plan well into the future by utilizing an asset management database work order system that documents all assets and work performed while ranking project needs accordingly.
