Pelham Road Bridge Replacement (Bridge Number 058/074)
Lead department: Engineering Department Project manager: Robert Puff, Engineering Director Funding: Tax Rate; State Aid Bridge Funding
The Town of Salem completed the reconstruction of the Pelham Road Bridge over Porcupine Brook during the 2009 construction season. The project consisted of full replacement of an existing 36-inch corrugated metal pipe with a precast concrete box structure. The Engineering Department successfully argued that the existing structure should be added to the NHDOT Municipally Managed Bridge List, thereby making the project eligible for State Aid Bridge Funds. The project also involved "full box" reconstruction of the adjacent roadway including new pavement, drainage improvements, and guardrail replacement. The project is situated on Pelham Road just west of the Commercial Dr intersection. The new replacement structure was designed in accordance with NHDOT Municipal Aid Bridge Program requirements and, as such, received 80% reimbursement on eligible project related expenses.
