Project Details
The Town of Salem completed the reconstruction of Emerson Way Bridge over Widow Harris Brook during the 2010 construction season. The project consisted of full replacement of the 1935 structure with a precast concrete rigid frame structure. The existing bridge was classified by NHDOT as a municipal red-list bridge and was previously closed due to damage suffered from the May 2006 flood. This location was structurally deficient and hydraulically inadequate. In addition, this location was subject to road over-topping and temporary closure during flood level events. The reconstruction project involved "full box" reconstruction of the adjacent roadway, new pavement, and guardrail replacement. The project is situated on Emerson Way just west of the North Main Street intersection. The new replacement structure was designed in accordance with NHDOT Municipal Aid Bridge Program requirements and, as such, received 80% reimbursement on eligible project related expenses.
